Thomas M. Buckley
Tom serves as the managing partner for the firm’s Raleigh office. He is involved in a wide variety of complex commercial litigation matters, including construction litigation, employment issues, small business dissolution, enforcement of and defense against claims under covenants not to compete, commercial and residential landlord/tenant disputes and lease negotiations, partnership disputes, unfair trade practice claims, community association law and real estate disputes. He also maintains an active general liability practice, defending motor vehicle, premises liability and products liability cases and advising carriers on coverage issues.
In addition to representing businesses in litigation, Tom works with his clients to avoid such disputes where possible, through contract negotiation, LLC and corporate formation, preparation of contracts and leases, and creation of employee handbooks. His clients include developers, contractors, insurance companies, realtors, dental and other professional practices, and a wide variety of other businesses and employers.
He is licensed to practice before all of the state and federal courts in North Carolina and actively practices in North Carolina’s Business Court. He has appeared before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Licensing Board for General Contractors, the North Carolina State Board for Dental Examiners, and the North Carolina Real Estate Commission.
Prior to joining Hedrick Gardner, Tom practiced in San Francisco, California, where he focused on maritime law, personal injury defense, construction litigation, and other commercial disputes.
Tom is AV peer-rated by Martindale Hubbell. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© 2013-2016 for Commercial Litigation and Insurance Law. He has also been selected to the North Carolina Super Lawyers list in Civil Litigation every year since 2010 and selected as a Legal Elite by Business North Carolina Magazine since 2009.
